Work Permit in Uganda


All applicants for work permits should be submitted to Immigration Department Headquarters. The applicant should obtain a file number within a period not exceeding 14 working days. Thereafter the applicant checks to ascertain whether the application has been considered. Consideration of the permit does not exceed 30 working days.

The pass is issued to dependants of foreigners who have legalised their stay in Uganda e.g. children below 18 years and next of kin who depend on the holder of any legal facility issued by the department.

It should be noted that this pass does not entitle an individual to work.


• Fill dependants pass application form.
• Two photos.
• Marriage certificate.
• Birth certificate in case of child/parent relationship.
• Copies of dependant's passport.
• Work permit/citizenship certificate for the applicant.

All applicants for work permits should be submitted to Immigration Department headquarters. Fill both Entry Permit 1 and Entry Permit 2.

The application should be duly recommended under Section 5 of Form “A” by a recommender who shall be a Ugandan citizen of integrity, with personal knowledge of the applicant.


Covering Letter From

• Employer in the case of employed applicants.
• School/Institution in the case of students.
• Parents in case of minor children.
• Ugandan mission abroad, in the case of applicants resident abroad.

Identification Documents

• Identity cards.
• Birth certificates.
• Three coloured passport size photographs taken against a white background.

Form A

Biodata details e.g. date of birth, sex,name, etc.

Form B

Details of parentage and citizenship verification.

Duly completed forms should be submitted in person by the applicant to the passport application receiving
office at the Directorate Of Citizenship & Immigration headquarters.

Special Pass

A Special Pass allows one to work on a short term basis. It services people doing business within a period not exceeding five months and those awaiting the Immigration Control Board's decision after applying for either Entry Permits, Certificates of Residence or Dependants Pass.

• Letter explaining why the applicant requires Special Pass.
• Holder's passport.
