Bringing Pets

Although it is not yet required, it is advisable that your pet should be identified with a microchip that meets ISO standards 11784/11785. This is a 15 digit ISO compliant microchip that operates at 134.2 kHz. If your pet does not have the ISO microchip, then the owner must provide their own scanner.

Your pet must be accompanied by a health certificate issued by a licensed veterinarian not more than 15 days prior to entering Uganda. This pet passport must show that the pet has been vaccinated against rabies and certain other diseases and is free of diseases communicable to humans. The rabies vaccination should be done at least 30 days prior to travel.

Unvaccinated pets (dogs and cats only) under three months old may require an import permit. Certain aggressive breeds of dogs are prohibited from entry.

Pets entering for commercial purposes require additional forms and different rules apply.
